Log analysis and site statistics report generation
I'm currently trawling through the mass of web log analysis and statistical report generation programs/scripts that are out there and am interested in what others have used and would recommend.
In the first instance I'm after a log analysis tool which generates reports, although I'm also interested in other tools which map site trends. So far I've tried Analog (very nice and OSS ) and HiStats (ok too, like having choice of period to report on) and if I ever get to finish downloading WebTrends Analysis Suite, I'll check it out (40mb and counting... mmm bloatware)...Thanx in advance, Jez

Hi Johan - well of the couple I've tried so far I do like [url:http://www.statslab.cam.ac.uk/~sret1/analog]Analog. I've only tried the basic config options so far, but it's very comprehensive for a relatively small package... nice and powerful! There are a few small bugs but the good thing is the source is available so it can be played with. Worth a look at least.
On windows, there's also [url:http://www.hisoftware.com ]HiStats (the package is at that site somewhere;\) - this application basically lets you create 'projects' for each site you work on and so for each project you specify the location of your logfiles and then import the records/log lines into histat's db. Then when you require a report for the project site, you enter the report dialog, specify the period for the report and let it rip. The output from Histats is a number of html pages, compared to Analog's one single large html page (both having their good and a bad points). Anyway Johan, I'm away for a few days, but do post any finds you make! I'll be looking at a few other packages soon and I'll post my findings here (I couldn't find any similar threads after searching all the forums;\). Cheers, Jez |
