newbie - access server from windows

I am new to apache, I have installed linux on a spare machine, apache is running and I get the succesfull installation page when I type

lynx http://10.0.0.1/

which is the ip of the box,

on the netwrked windows machine when I type http://10.0.0.1/ I get a DNS error page unavailable bu ftp works

ftp://10.0.0.1/

I have probably missed something crucial and would appreciate any help

Thank you in advance

Jonathan White

Have you defined a ServerName directive in httpd.conf? If so, what is it?

Ive defined the ServerName as linus in httpd.conf (the name of the machine) I have tried http://linus/ in IE and that doesnt work either
