Use whatever ServerName you want and put it to C:\Windows\Hosts file (win9x/ME) or C:\WinNT\System32\Drivers\Etc\Hosts (WinNT/2K/XP).
The ONE LINE format is: 127.0.0.1 hostname.mylocaldomain.com hostname This Hosts file doesn't exist by default, so create it manually. Do not use a real domain. If you put: 127.0.0.1 www.yahoo.com You will not be able to reach www.yahoo.com any longer. >> I don't now what to do Don't worry about it. Apache reads ServerName dynamically upon startup. That said, if Apache is installed, you don't have to reinstall it. |

>> put in to this folder
C:\WinNT\System32\Drivers\Etc\Hosts No, you put to etc folder. The file must be named Hosts (case-insensitive). Without a reboot, you can run tracert hostname and it should show 127.0.0.1 is mapping to hostname.mylocaldomain.com. When your system itself can determine its hostname, Apache always should, unless you haven't restarted Apache. |

>> I got now a text.doc with
No, the file needs to be named Hosts (without file extension). >> still not working 1) Can you ping 127.0.0.1? 2) Can you ping hostname.localdomain.com? 3) Can you traceroute the IP by running tracert 127.0.0.1? 4) How about tracert hostname.localdomain.com? |

If the answer is no to all, then you should reread this thread right from the beginning. Just terminate Apache completely at the moment and get the ping and tracert to work.
Once again, you just need to setup Hosts file appropriately then fire up Apache, that's all and it's that simple. |
