Trouble getting Apache to run on Win 95

I've installed Apache 1.3.20 on a Win 95 machine. The first time I tried to run Apache it failed and a pop-up window said that WS2_32.DLL was missing. I found one on another computer and copied it over to C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. When I launched Apache the second time, it failed again and another pop-up window appeared, this time saying it needed WSHELP.DLL (I think) which I copied over as well.

Now when I run Apache it exits quickly and the log file says the following:

[Fri Aug 10 14:55:12 2001] [crit] (2)No such file or directory: make_sock: failed to get a socket for port 80

Does anyone have any idea what this is or how to "get a socket for port 80"? I am not running any firewall nor am I aware of any other software which may be a possible conflict.

Sometimes ago I reinstalled win-98 (1st edition) onto my notebook.
Installing Apache I had some problems similar to yours.
At that time I had IE4.0 installed, so after installing IE5.0 I did not have any problem.
Maybe it's a specific problem with windows dlls.
As a suggestion I could say try to intall a version of IE major then 5.0 (which version do you have?),
or try to search here
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/FAQ.html.

Poor and generic suggestions, but hope helps.

Yeah, I'm thinking it has something to do with the DLLs, but I don't know what. I've got IE 5.5 on the machine.

I got it working

To those who are interested:

I found a partial answer to my problem on the Apache site here:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/misc/FAQ.html#ws2_32dll

Apparently, I needed to download and install the Winsock 2 Update, which solved the problem. I'm running a really old version of Windows 95 so I guess that is to be expected. Well, at least by some.

Here's the link for the MS download:
