Really simple question I know, but if I want to edit a configuration file....
1) is it ok to edit withnotepad and then ftp the result back up 2) if the file requires root access is there any easy way to do this in ftp? Thanks Barrie |

1) Yes. If it's an overwrite to the exact file on the server, then it's fine. If you upload it somewhere and move it to the existing file, you then need to remove all the ^M at the end of lines before moving.
2) Then that directory probably requires root access as well so you can't even upload to that directory at all. What??? Are you afraid of using vi or some other text editors or something? >> is there any easy way to do this in ftp If you have root access and you must use ftp, then enable root login via FTP. |
