Website performance testing tools

Hi,

Right now our site is co-located. We are trying to bring it back to our company location. The problem is before we bring it back to our site we want to test the performance of both locations. Can anybody suggest some tools to find out

1. How much time did it take for a particular page to come up
2. How much time did any download took ? and what was the speed
3. Netwrok performance.

Thanks for any help.

I hope this will help. There's a great new network monitoring and flow analysis tool available, called AppDancer/FA. It won the Best of Interop at Networld+Interop in Network Management this past May. It allows you to look at the user transactions at the application level, rather than the data or network level, in real-time. TYou can see all the components of the webpage in the order received and the time it took to download it. There is a 14 day free trial available on their website, URL so it might be worth a try in order to solve your problem. Hope this helps!

You can
- download the software from the AppDancer Networks website (URL) (or call AppDancer Networks and ask them to send you the product on a CD),
- install it at your website location, and then
- access it with a browser.

If you have questions or this won't work for you, feel free to call AppDancer Networks (+1 770 643-6800 and ask for technical support. It is free!

There's also JMeter, from the Apache group (http://jakarta.apache.org/jmeter/). I've not personally used this product, but there's a pretty good article about it on the latest (August issue) of Dr. Dobbs Journal (http://www.ddj.com/articles/2002/0208/).
