Unlike Linux and Solaris, FreeBSD has a consistent directory layout so files and directories will never be all over the places.
The default location of your httpd.conf is /usr/local/etc/apache/httpd.conf

Thanks!

I take a look at it after work, but thanks!

I guess you favor freebsd over linux, right? I have been doing a little bit of research over the comparisons, but it would seem that freebsd would be a better a better desktop solution than one of the many linux distros.

I would run Slackware if there were no such OSes as *BSDs. I'd say, once you are technically capable of handling FreeBSD, you would think running any Linux dist. is just childish. For those who run M$ servers, they are just plain dumb. Note, childish doesn't necessarily be dumb.

Personally, I don't run any non-Windows workstation, Win98SE (not WinME) has always been my only desktop. As for desktop of Linux vs. FreeBSD, I'd go for FreeBSD, just because the ports system makes compiling software on FreeBSD more stable, durable and whole lot easier. What's more? Unlike RPM, installing software from the ports tree gives you the configurability that RPM lacks of. There have been many debates with binary vs. source. Would you rather install software in binary format and get your system up and running real fast, but losing stability and durability?

Yeah, for right now I am running Win2k as my desktop at home, and although I love it, I am interested in moving away from Windows as a desktop because of M$'s apparent grand scheme that includes licensing traps.

I work on a Solaris machine at work, so I have become pretty comfortable around the *nix file system and shell interfaces, so I am toying with FreeBSD on an older machine at home to see if I want to use it as a primary desktop. This includes setting up an apache webserver w/ php and postgressql as the db.

The ports system in *BSD is definately one of the things that drew me towards it. Thanks for the help, I am sure I will have some more questions soon, but hopefully I'll learn enough to be able to return the favor to others new to FreeBSD.

Brett
