    Xampp 1.7.7 & vhost - Not seeing anything but localhost

    I'm finally getting around to installing XAMPP on my new computer so I installed like I did normally into the c:\xampp directory. Changed my localhost file to reflect to local sites I need to use it for and copied my vhosts file from another working installation and changed the virtual hosts. I can see the first domain in the list by viewing "localhost" in Firefox but even when I try to type the server name for the same site I hit the real site bmg.com. Maybe they have a subdomain local that redirects to the main site? In any case something is being ignored. If I try to go to another site (local.regency.com) I get a "web page not found" error page from Cox.

    Win 7
    XAMPP 1.7.7
    Last installation was XP and XAMPP 1.6.8 but all the config files must still work across versions, right?

    hosts file:
    local.bmg.com localhost
    local.wop.com localhost
    local.udc.com localhost
    local.madcornhole.com localhost
    local.centrestage.com localhost
    local.jbhf.com localhost
    local.regency.com localhost
    local.signproducers.com localhost
    local.stewards.com localhost

    vhosts (just one of several virtual hosts):
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName local.bmg.com
    DocumentRoot "d:/bmg/web/"
    <Directory />
    Options FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    Satisfy all
    </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>

    It's been a while so I must've forgotten something but I can't think of what it is...

    Thanks for any help,

    Mike

    OK, I'm not sure what's wrong, obviously, but I've been playing around with it some more and I can't even ping localhost. Odd that localhost pops up the first website in the list...

    One thing, the syntax of your hosts file entries is incorrect.

    I'd swear I pulled a copy of a hosts file from a computer with XAMPP working properly and just changed the names...

    OK, so I booted up the old machine with the degraded raid and checked out the files on it that I know definitely worked.

    Hosts file is now
    127.0.0.1 local.bmg.com
    127.0.0.1 local.wop.com
    127.0.0.1 local.udc.com
    127.0.0.1 local.madcornhole.com
    127.0.0.1 local.centrestage.com
    127.0.0.1 local.jbhf.com
    127.0.0.1 local.regency.com
    127.0.0.1 local.signproducers.com
    127.0.0.1 local.stewards.com

    vhosts files is mostly unchanged except that I didn't realize that NameVirtualHost was commented out on the default install. So I made that command valid.

    vhosts is:
    NameVirtualHost *:80
    <VirtualHost *:80>
    ServerName local.bmg.com
    DocumentRoot "d:/bmg/web/"
    <Directory />
    Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride None
    Order allow,deny
    Allow from all
    Satisfy all
    </Directory>
    </VirtualHost>...

    Now I can type any of the domains in the hosts file but I get nothing but the very first domain (local.bmg.com) in the list no matter which domain I type.

    I guess I gotta dig out my Head First Book and read through the install of XAMPP 'cause there's some flag (like the NameVirtualHost) that I've obviously missed and looking through the config files is ringing absolutely no bells...
