Using RedHat 6.2, apache-1.3.12-2. When starting httpd response is httpd started OK, however in error_log file the following is displayed:- [day month date time year][crit](98)address already in use:make_sock:could not bind to address x.x.x.x port 80.
Also there are no processes (httpd) running when listing via ps -ax. When checking the status of httpd the response is - httpd dead but subsys locked. Issuing the stop command returns Failed, reloading command returns Failed, start command returns OK. Have even tried uninstalling and re installing apache but problem still persists. Would appreciate any pointers or clues as to what to try next.

You should not install apache RPM at all. Apache in RPM doesn't enable everything you might need by default, in addition, adding modules or upgrading is a pain. You should try to build Apache from source. Please check out http://www.devshed.com/Talk/Forums/F...ML/000020.html
