ASP Vs PHP

hi,

i have been programming in PHP, for the last couple of months...which i now have a reasonable understand in.

The main reason for this post, is that im currently a computing student and i am probably going to use ASP soon.

I was wondering what are the key differents with ASP, compared to PHP?

e.g. syntax of code, database connectivity, programing environment....etc....

Thanks for any advice in advance

To really oversimplfy the answer here
ASP code is really similar in structure and syntax to VB.
PHP code is really similar in structure and syntax to C/C++

You will probably use ASP.NET instead of ASP sooner than later. ASP.NET is the new version of ASP(if you can call it like that) and if you like the C/C++ syntax you can always code your ASP.NET application in C#. So maybe you should check it out. ASP.NET is the place to go

I work with windows XP, mysql/firebird/MSDE and visual studio.net. If you don't have vs.net you can use WebMatrix for your web apps and sharpdevelop for the rest. They are free and very good.

WebMatrix

I agree with the previous post. Stay away and don't pay attention to it if you can use IIS

I nternet Information Services. its another web server program. much better than pws for just about everything. however, if you're running xp home (god knows why), you might have a real hard time making iis or pws work. this thread:
http://www.tek-tips.com/gviewthread.../333/qid/175058
has a lot about this, as well as some links and such to 3rd party web server software/freeware you can use instead
