Pseudocode for family tree algorithms?

hey im doin a project to design a family tree in the languages processing and asp.net. im at the design stage and cant figure out how im gonna do the complex logic.

What i need to do is find algorithms for visualizing a family tree, traversing the tree, finding a node on the tree, and hiding/showing a subsection of the tree.

These have to be written in pseudocode so any suggestions about algorithms to use or how to do it will be helpfull ive been over this for a week now thanks.
