A Perfect Program?

I am an aspiring web site designer. The main site that I work on is my brother's, a movie reviews and news site. Unfortunately, his website has been going down the drain lately due to time constraints (he even lost his free host because he did not update enough).

I was wondering if there were any programs or tools that could be customized for my needs. I would like a program where my brother can enter in the actual review of the movie and its details (actors, actresses, director, running time, etc) and have it create a new page with all of the information in the appropriate spots.

I know this is a huge demand, but I think it seems reasonable enough that there would be a demand for it (and hence, a program).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Site Admin

Sounds like what you are talking about is a common site administrative section. Meaning that there is a secured folder in the web site, which acts as a tool to administrate the main web site. It may include tools to add news, movies reviews, alter guestbooks, etc. You name it. Each of these sections are, usually, always customized for the need of the web site, since there is no way to make a universal tool for that.

All major sites have it, you just never see it. Some are simple and complicated. If you want a news script, movie review, and that sort of thing, it should be pretty easily done. Any common internet language can do it, Perl, PHP, ASP, etc.

Are there any available programs that can add information?

I would like to have one, but I do not know PHP, Perl, or any other scripting languages. And also, I would not be hosting my own website, and there are not many free hosts who support things like PHP

I didn't see anything specific at PHP Nuke, unless the actual PHP Nuke program has what I am looking for. As I said earlier, I will be using a free host, so I cannot set up my own server with Apache, PHP, and SQL. How would I got about using something like PHP Nuke on a free host?

Obi - if you download PHP Nuke from the phpnuke site, there are detailed instructions on setting it up included for you. The only requirements are that you have a PHP enabled host and access to a mysql database.

PHP Nuke is as good a content manager you'll get in terms of ease of configuration and installation, and should do you nicely. Just download it from the site and read! (I think they even have an install script included in it now).

The links Mark provided above are good too for finding ready-rolled solutions. To that list I'd add:

http://freshmeat.net
http://sourceforge.net

Run a search for 'web content management' on either of those and you'll get a long list of scripts to check out.

Good luck!

You might also want to consider postnuke. Some say it's more stable than PHP Nuke. I say, "you be the judge".
