I am using Linux on a G3 PPC.
Coming from the Intel world ( and before that: Z-80) this is my first experience with Motorolla stuff. Q: Where can I find a good assembler for a G3 on a Linux platform? Q: Where can I find good documentation to use said assembler? Thanks, |

Hi iGuy,
I have roots in Assembler as well... before I turned to the dark side... webdesign! ![]() I wrote a key loging util on a PPC once, I used it to hack my high-school library... hehehe... this one time I beaten up by this fat kid, I think his name was Sykes (burn muther*ucker, burn!) so I checked out a whole bunch of books on gender-identity issues (Am I gay? - Coming out... etc.) I set the books to expire within a day, so later that week our homeroom teacher was reading out notices, and when she came to outstanding library books... she stopped, looked at him and just handed the note instead of reading it. Ah, the look of horror on his face. Anyway, it turned out he WAS gay... actually, I did him a huge favor - and everybody was so PC that they acted like they didn't know. He lost a lot of friends though... ANYWAY. So. I've used the Motorola PowerPC "Programming Environments for 32-bit Microprocessors" book (MPCFPE32B/AD) which lists the instructions and also has the simplified mnemonics at the back. Maybe Amazon stock it? Maybe you can get it as a PDF from motorola's site? You can use ASMIX on the PowerPC, which is based on the bog-standard GAS assembler. ASMIX -> http://www.inorg.chem.msu.ru/~cubbi/serious/asmix.html There are also some good intro articles at IBM's site, with links to resources for ASM on the PPC - I think they have some of their own assemblers too - check it out! IBM -> http://www-106.ibm.com/developerworks/library/l-ppc/ There's also the beginner's guide to ASM on the PPC - VERY GOOD, wish I had that when I started out... Beginner's Guide -> http://www.lightsoft.co.uk/Fantasm/...ers/begin1.html And... in general (incl. gas, ld, ar, etc.): binutils -> http://sources.redhat.com/binutils/ Happy coding! ![]() Nao |
