It could be happening because somebody has their page redirecting you to another page with a 0 second delay. They would use this tag <META HTTP-EQUIV="refresh" CONTENT="0;URL=http://my.newplace.com/">
That would make it so whenever you click the back button it would immediately redirect you back to the page you were on when you clicked the back button, I usually use IE, but I've noticed on pages that do that I can do the same thing you do to beat it, just double click the back button really fast.
Sorry I don't know of a better way to get around it, how about praying that people don't do 0 second redirects on their pages? (:
