Hi, me again
![]() I am still looking to build a PC. It is going to be used as a mini-fileserver. I am looking for something under £175, and the parts must be available in the UK. Now, I'm not the hardware type, and I am having difficulty understanding what parts will be compatible with each other. Here is what I am looking for: ~1Ghz Duron, Celeron, Pentium or Athlon Processor ~30Gb HDD (RPM doesn't matter) ~256mb RAM (any type that is compatible) Motherboard (I have no idea what to choose) Floppy / CD Drive (52x ish) Standard Video card (just for standard apps, no DVDs or gaming )Network Card (to go into my Netgear WGR614 router) Cheapy Sound Card (just mic and speakers, again, no DVDs or gaming) Keyboard, Mouse, Parallel & USB port(s) like normal Looking to put all this into a case like this. The stores I am currently looking at: www.ebuyer.com (Sheffield, UK) www.komplett.co.uk www.scan.co.uk www.smcdirect.co.uk www.maplin.co.uk Hopefully someone will have done something similar to me and can give me some products i can use.... Thanks sooooo much in advance, computer |

* Case (£30) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...&quicklinx=17DL
* S3 Savage 4LT 8MB AGP (£9.99) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...&quicklinx=202T * 256MB 184Pin DIMM PC3200 DDR RAM Non-Parity CL2.5 (£38.99) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...&quicklinx=2CVF * Keyboard (£5.51) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...p?quicklinx=T3J * Mouse (£4.50) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...?quicklinx=23SJ * MotherBoard - with onboard Audio and Network Card (£29.01) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...?quicklinx=2D1Q * Floppy Drive (£5.51) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...y&quicklinx=FSM * Hard Disk Drive - 40GB (£42.49) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...&quicklinx=24TB * CD-ROM - 52X (£12.00) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...y&quicklinx=ZZD -------- £178.99p (incl. VAT [!] + delivery - if any) Those are the cheapest compoments at DABs... like Teso Value Dog Food! (LOL! have you seen those? My dog refuses to go near it!) The only thing I'm not sure about is if the case comes with a PSU and if so, what power rating (WATTS) it is. 250W is enough for your setup. For a monitor, you could get something second hand (computer exchange?) or you could go for the cheapest I could find: * CTX Montior - 800x600 @ 100MHz (£77.55) http://www.dabs.com/products/prod-i...&quicklinx=2GC3 So that's £256.54 (incl. VAT) in total for that line-up. I use DABs all the time, they are generally very cheap (on 'value' items) and a lot of the other price indexes (keloo) list DABs stock at their cheap end. Have fun! best, nao ps - ALSO, double-check with them whether the motherboard fits the case!
