C++ Book Recommendations
Hi,
Does anyone know of any good C++ books, can anyone recommend a few good ones I can buy. I'm not new to programming, I'm pretty good with Java, and I've done a little C. I've also been working with Objective-C lately. I'm looking for a book that doesn't move too slowly and doesn't spend chapter after chapter explaining what a GUI is and teach me how to write 'Hello, World' in big pink letters. I want something that gets straight to the point, if you know what I mean?! Any recommendations? Thanks Last edited by moistmule : February 26th, 2009 at 10:53 AM. Reason: Removing the swear words! |

Look between Acclerated C++ by Koenig, C++ Primer by Lippman, and Programming: Principles and Practice Using C++ by Stroustrup.

If you agree with the link, and you refuse to answer that question, you are being a hypocrite. Need help with broken code? Your question should be like a good bug report: (1) It has the smallest number of steps to reproduce the problem you see (2) It tells us precisely what you expected to see and (3) It tells us what you saw and how it differed from what you expected. We need all three to help you. Want better answers? Tell us what you Googled for and what steps you took to answer your own question. |

"An Introduction to Programming with C++ would be good, don't really need to read everything in the book.

I found this book to be quite insighful but it lacked a certain depth. It is a little old now but should still be relevant.

There are a lot of ebooks on C/C++ out there for downloading. ebookee.com and 4shared.com are good places to start.
And after doing that, you may want to get yourself a LibraryThing.com account. It's a website where you can list/catalog your books. Free account can hold up to 200 books. My library of C/C++/C# is at librarything.com/catalog/programmer.jp. Then, to answer your question which book is the best, just look at the stats of books owned by the majority. You'll have an idea. |
