can't get php to run

Hello,

I have downloaded and installed the firepages bundle (V1). Everything seemed OK and apache starts no problem. However, I cannot call up php scripts, and anything labeled php has the generic icon and I get a message asking what program I would like to open php with. I suspect it is related to do with the fact that I have trouble accessing the localhost (I get the usual 'cannot access' message.

Any help is appreciated

PS when I am connected to the internet and I try to call up a php script in localhost I get a message saying I don't have permission to access on this server
