I am currently doing an assignment on setting up a virtual marketplace using the object-oriented or structured design approach.. A virtual market offers web space for web-shops or cyber-stores with some support functions...e.g. directory service, product search, ads, shop info etc.... In order to do this, according to your website, I must use programs such as PHP, SQL, Apache etc..however the website is based on the assumption on running using a UNIX server....if i were to run on Windows, what relevant changes should I make or ensure?
Thanks for your assiatance |

These forums are definitely PHP leaning, kinda spooky for me as an ASP coder. ASP is the approach of choice on windows servers, however...I host my sites with a host that also has Perl and PHP installed (http://www.1planhost.com), so you still have that choice if your server has alternate software installed. SQL is a generic term that applies to a few different applications. Seems to me that MySQL is prefered by PHP users and MS-SQL is prefered by ASP users.
good luck |

Well, I'm a rank newbie myself, but I would think that since Apache, MySQL, and PHP all come in versions for the M$ platform, you could just use them and get on with it.
