comp won't start
i have these parts
case, mobo RAM HDD CPU but when i plug it in into the outlet. all i see is a green light on th ebottom of the motherboad. no sounds or anything. and if i press the button on the front nothing happens. i tried that switch on the back of the case. but still nothing. what could be wrong? shouldn't it make a sound even when u just plugged it into the outlet? thank you |

No, nothing will happen if you have installed the CPU wrong, the motherboard doesn't support the CPU or requires configuration on the board itself via jumpers or switches to support the FSB. Also you should check the correct memory has been installed and that the board supports the speed.
Basically read the manual that came with the motherboard and make sure everything is configured correctly. And it will only make a sound if it gets to the bios, there is a speaker correctly plugged in and there is a problem. Generally it won't make a sound if everything is configured correctly. There are literally hundreds of little things that could be wrong though.

the green light is the standby power LED.
when it's on it's in the sleep mode. but i want to wake it up. did i do somethig wrong or is that because i don't got all the parts. like a video card. i havent' installed that yet. Last edited by wannabe : May 31st, 2003 at 05:24 PM. |

mmmmmmm, i should point out something...., when i built my first system, i too had the same problem with the fans not rotating..... but i do believe that i said that i had shorted the mobo out at some earlier point........
(just in case......) |

Hope not...
And it is not the missing graphics card. PCs do work without one. Check if you put in the ram *correctly*, i.e. see if it is in its socket the same depth on both ends, both side brackets closed firmly and the little round hole in the ram board in its place. Did you connect the speaker?

at the worst, everything on the motherboard could be ruined.... but not likely, maybe just the cpu. not to put anyones advice down here, but i would leave it into a shop where they can fix it and then tell u what u were doing wrong, that way u dont lose ur money and u still learn something.....
