Dlink 804 - can't reach server from "outside"
Hi,
I have LAN where I have a freeBSD server, a load of workstations connectin to the internet through a dlink 804 router. From within the LAN I have no problem reaching the server and f.ex. fetching a web-page. But from the outside i can't connect to the server. As i see it the problem is in the configuration of the router. Has any one any experience in setting up dlink 804's? In particular setting it up to let connections pass through to a specific ip/machine? thanks // Martin

I haven't used a dlink, but check your configuration and look for something called "NAT". Stands for Network Address Translation. That will let you redirect specific ports to an internal ip address.

Still having trouble?
Most routers today, especially dlink, have a built in web interface that is accessed by typing in the base IP address of your LAN (if one of your machines is 192.168.0.102 then your base would be 192.168.0.1). Type this in and it should ask for a password. Most Dlinks have and "Advanced" page that allows you to do port forwarding... ie. Send port 25 requests to 192.168.0.187 or something like that. You need to explicitly forward each service to it's host.
Hope this helps... |
