Hey,

Once upon a time when I was new to the web, I registered some domains with Easyspace.com. I now want to host the domains and have a hosting account ready to go.

The problem is that, since registering, they've introduced a £5 admin charge. Because there are about 10 domains, I don't really want to pay them. Also, I think its just a little cheeky to introduce a charge without telling me!

The question is, is it possible to change the registrar / DNS settings other than through easyspace?

Any help would be much appreciated!

Paul.

Once upon a time, when I was new to the web and Easyspace didn't exist, the cost of registering a .co.uk domain name was 94 pounds and a .com 70 - 100 dollars.
Sounds like a fiver to transfer one is chicken feed
Seriously though, I reckon you are stuck with leaving them where they are, or paying the fiver each. Easyspace is the registration authority in this case, and nobody else can change the IP addresses associated with your domains. They sell 'em, they control 'em.
Not much help, is it?

That's not exactly correct. You can change the registrar of a domain, it's just not the easiest thing to do. You also are required to pay for a year of the registration of the domain with the new company you go to, and you lose the time you had left with the old company. I'd suggest you look at network-solutions.com or register.com for specific help. There are no admin fees with those companies.

Hehe! That's not exactly correct either. The original question was basically 'Can I transfer the domains without paying a five pound fee?'
I answered 'No' and Tim answered 'Yes, but it will cost you'. Not much difference eh?

I'm not sure where the five pounds comes from, but on the list of available transfer services, a change of DNS is ten pounds and a change of IPS tag holder is twentyfive pounds.

I have several domains registered with Easyspace and in many cases I have supplied IP addresses so that I can use my hosting account in the USA. I renew the registrations through Easyspace - they simply point to my domains wherever they may be.

In the case of a .co.uk domain, to actually change registration holders means giving the IPS tag to another provider - not the cheapest option. The IPS tag holder then has control over web forwarding and mail forwarding (just as Easyspace do now).

Most (if not all) of the cheap/free domain name suppliers will charge something to move a domain name, and as Tim says, the new host will probably make a charge as well.

I still reckon you are going to have to put your hand in your pocket at some stage

You may transfer your domain to any domain registra you like (for TLD domains like COM / NET / ORG) Whats it will cost you is USD8.99 - USD35.00)

Different registra have different rates. You may locate a OpenSRS registra and their rate will be cheaper compare to Network Solutions or Register.com.

Good Luck!
