dual boot win98se/win2k (memory problem}
hey guys........i have ddr memory.originally i had a 512 stick of memory in pc and both 98 and 2k ran fine.i bought and installed another 256 stick.win2k runs fine however i get warnings when i use 98.(system dangewrously low on memory).at first i thought maybe it was a new program in 98 not releaseing memory.but when i remove the 256 memory 98 is back to normal.it doesnt seem to matter if i switch the memory in the diff banks....still get warning.......is this common ??the memory was the same....both pc2100.id hate to buy another stick and have the 98 problem again

I seem to recall something from an old CIS class where we were told that you shouldn't mix different size wafers (e.g. 256 and 512). I'd never actually seen a problem with that and I've done it on numerous occasions, but maybe that's what the problem is.

That is a known win98 problem, just because of the way win98 is designed. http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;EN-US;253912 tells about the error and how to do a workaround (you limit the memory win98 uses to 512mb.) Windows 2000 has different architecture, so it works fine with the ram. Getting a new stick will not solve the problem, the issue is software, not hardware.
