Question file recovery software?

What did you do to cause the need for recovery? Googling for "free file recovery software" netted some hits, assuming you haven't physically damaged your drive.

hehe not really... my little bro "accidentally" deleted some of my veeery important files... had back-ups in cd but my cdrom is hmmm ko-ed for now hrhrhr

I guess tip is the exact opposite of what you're looking for, but by doing SHIFT + DEL on a file permanently deletes it.

There's not such thing as "permanently deleted" unless the surface of the drive is physically destroyed. There are just varying levels of difficulty in recovering it. (Ok, maybe overwriting with 0's a few dozen times will do it too, but even that has to be done right to be effective)
