Forum Creation

Does anyone know of books, programs and any other resources that may help me in creating a intranet forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you want create forum for sake of forum, then just get yourself copy of phpBB, Iconboard, invisionboard or any other freely distributed boards.

But if you want to learn how to create forum, you will have to learn some sort of server side language. Main ones are php, perl, java server pages, asp and cold fusion. Check out devshed's tutorials - they give a good basic knowledge of server side programming.

I have been fiddling with a sort of forum system in my free time. You are welcome to have a fiddle with it (click here) and direct any questions to me (or post them somewhere - even in your own channel) on the site

I've spent a lot of time looking at forums recently.

The best forum I've found, in terms of sheer technical prowess and features is GossamerForum.

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/scr...forum/index.htm

Almost every other forum I've seen mixes code and HTML, which leads to an un-upgradable mess of misery when it comes to customization.

It's free to non-profits, otherwise it's $200. Given that I work for a non-profit, I almost feel guilty getting it for free, it's THAT good.

These folks are perl masters. I bow to them.

I was considering making my own forum until I found GossamerForum.
