Host Var from PHP in HTML?

my PHP script stores the host name in $host and i want the value to be in my html page connected to it.

how can i make it so my html page has a link that is http://$host/something.etc

Does the page need to have a .html extention?
Otherwise, you can just write the page in PHP and use the variable as usual.
