How do i get linux to work

When i try to install linux onto my computer i get the message hdc: lost interupt.. then i pauses and i get in interupt handler not syncing,,
why do i get that whats happnin,
Thanks any help would be great..

What hardware are you running? I assume you're installing off a cd? Which kernel version and flavor?
The lost interrupt error could mean your disk is bad (hd). Check that all your connections to the hd and cd drive are sound as well.

yeah im istalling from a cd .. i am trying to install mandrake linux 9.1 on a system i have just built, windows xp runs fine on it i installed it to check everything. but when i try linux i get the messages. hdc is my hard disc (new maxtor )

yeah i just installed suse linux and that worked fine
