how do u make this type of site?

http://ad-rag.com/

that "3d panel looking kind of thing" u see everywhere...how do u do that...never used fireworks if its related to that...maybe thats why i sound like a dunce...

ok listen designers, i know you've seen stuff like that a thousand times. but its something i want to learn, and the reverse engineering isn't working.

i saved the source code so i could see it without images and im having a bitch of a time trying to duplicate how the panels seems to have a 3d sort of depth. anyone know what i mean? anyhow id like to know if there are any resources out there, not "how to make a website" but how to specifically do that kind of thing. thanks.

I think those shadows are just parts of the images. You would use something like Photoshop, GIMP, Paint Shop Pro, Fireworks, etc. to make that a part of the image.

actually the sides are not part of the image, as i saved the source code just to see the site without images and the shading was retained...its something like tables withing tables with different shades in cells i guess...but it sounds kind of complex

shokesy, those are images. Best way to check is to drag them to your status bar, in ie that will load that particular image by itself. If you do so you can easily see dark region as part of bottom image.
This lame sort of shading can be done in photshop in 4 clicks (double click layer -> drop shadow -> ok). I am sure it's as easy in any other at leat half decent 2d graphic program.

no its not that complicated; the shadings are still graphic files which have been made into the background of that particular table cell. when you removed the images in the source, you didnt remove the background, which from looking at his source, is set in his stylesheet file.

yeah but look at the vertical border. when i click on it to do "save as pic" i dont have that option which led me to believe that the vertical borders werent composed of images.

i finally realized that the vertical borders are stretched images of tiny pictures. but can someone tell me why i couldn't right click and save the images?

because as i've said in my previous post it is a table cell background. if you make an image a background, you wont be able to right click on it and save the image - what you'll get is the content not the background.
