how do you...
how do you make something you've created on localhost available to the web? I really don't want to pay my site host for mysql hosting. I tried using my IP to access it but it kept on changing. Any ideas?

you can use a dynamic dns service. You need to run a service on your machine that updates the dns service when your ip changes.
there are lots of them, such as dyndns.org |

Some of them actually have programs that check for changes in your ip and record them on their servers so traffic goes to your computer. Examples like this are no-ip.com if you want a subdomain or enom.com, if you wish to use a domain name. You have to pay for the domain, of course, and they charge $30, but you can buy through a reseller (like me) and get the services for less than half that.

I highly suggest dyndns.org -dirt cheap open-source zealots with a highly redundant network. What could be better?

just host it for free elsewhere.
like http://sphosting.com http://coolfreepages.com or search for it here http://clickherefree.com second one offers mysql both have ads, that can be taken care of. but if you don't feel right getting rid of the ads, most likely your ISP doesn't let you run servers. So choose a better crime =). or just leave the ads on they're not that annoying. also for free postgresql/ mysql dbs http://freesql.org - it's really cool that it's free but it's down a lot. or maybe it was cause he was upgrading the server. you'll find those sites that make you qualify for their hosting. i hate those. i tried like 5 and didn't make it to either, they also make you wait like a month just to tell you "Sorry, but your site sucks, (just like our hosting plan)" |

They can stop you mttatkns. Through setting up firewalls and the like between you and the internet. Easy.

Well, obviously they can but most don't except for extreme bandwidth use. In other words, they don't care until it costs them money.

Well some do it since they offer hosting themselves and dont want u doing it, you need to read the Acceptable Use Policy of your host and see if they allow you to or not. If they dont then there well may be measures in place to prevent you.

cool thanks guys.
I took your advice and went to dyndns.org. Very good. The only problem I have now is that sometimes when I click on a link it changes from subdomain.dyndns.org to localhost. Why does this happen and how do I resolve it? Tom ![]() |

Did you enter your IP? It's not that difficult...

yes I did. It works fine when you go to the url, but when I click on a couple of links it changes to localhost
