Question

I've been given the task of doing a search against an Excel spreadsheet based on single or combined search fields entered via a web page(form). I suggested having the info put into a database such as Oracle or SQL but it was a no go. What I need is something that will search an Excel spreadsheet returning all pertinent rows (properly formatted) based on matching column (possibly multiple) data. How should I tackle this?? I'm new to database stuff in general, but I've been studying up on SQL and know enough in Perl to get by, but have done NOTHING with Excel spreadsheets at all. It was recommended that the file be converted to a text file, but that's also a no go -- powers that be want the spreadsheet accessed directly.

help!

You may want to check out the module Excel Spreadsheet-ParseExcel located at CPAN

They also have other modules for Excel, just do a search on Excel modules. This assuming your working with Perl.

Cheers,

Mickalo
