Hey sacrilege, Luke Dolan, anybody else out there?????

Yeah, I know it's a holiday and people that aren't online in this forum probably have a REAL life... but I'm really desperate for some help getting my HP printer up and running!

Does anyone KNOW anyone that already HAS an HP printer? I have this new HP officejet 7110 all-in-one from Best Buy who claims that they do not provide free support for "printer installation" because of the potential liability.

I threatened to return the printer yesterday, and the manager put me on with a second technician who TRIED to help, but my current hang-up is trying to get Java Virtual Machine installed on my Windows XP pc! I've done a search on the words "Java Virtual Machine" and NO actual program exists anywhere, and as I've been individually downloading PARTS of the HP printer software (for example - I've successfully downloaded the HP Photo Program, as well as the Share-to-Web program), I still cannot get the entire installation to run!

I'm gonna be like an irritating little gnat buzzing around this forum's collective ears until SOMEBODY out there can find SOMEONE to help me!?!?! Why do I always buy something or something breaks on a Friday night and I have a TON of stuff to do before Monday morning???? NOW, I'm even MORE behind with today being Labor Day!

Can either of you two that are currently signed on, besides our moderators computer and SilkySmooth make a phone call to a software-minded friend that can talk me through getting this beast running????

I've got about five construction estimates, five construction contracts, about the same number of invoices to send out - all before TOMORROW or I'll have a cranky husband who already mistrusts all of my technology.

It's tough living in a high-tech world when I've got the mind-set of the horse & buggy days. I refuse to let him scrawl this stuff out with a pencil as he threatens. Come ON! We can't let the world think that all of this expensive technology is LAME because it's always BROKEN, can we?

All persons reading this forum should feel a sense of responsibility to redeem the honor of our increasing technology, and not allow it to be besmirched by a less-knowlegable operator (me). I NEED HELP, as my name indicates!

The sooner someone answers me, and gets my printer running, the sooner I'll go away - look at that as the BRIGHT side!!!

I'm watching this forum with eagle's eyes, while I frantically search everywhere on the world-wide-web as well as within my HP printer's documentation. PLEASE HELP ME???

Question Computer & SilkySmooth - are you REALLY THERE???

Are you guys REALLY monitors right now, or are you both at the last waterski show of the season, or at the 1pm showing of Jeepers Creepers 2?

This is a suckky time to need help. To be honest, my family is so sick of me TOO, that they're dragging me off to see Jeepers Creepers 2 for the 3:05pm showing. At least you won't be receiving postings during THAT time!

But... I'll be baaaaack!

Lol, were here, please dont post things like this, even though your needing help, you need to follow the rules!!!

Anyway, I suggest you hold tight as people will sometimes only check the forum once a week or so.

Is it of vital importance for it to be fixed tonight.

I would suggest you try posting on sitepoint.com and techimo.com as they have quite a few users online.

Unhappy I apologize for not following rules. I'll check out the other sites too!

Sorry for my impatience! You know how it is when you get a new toy and it doesn't have batteries, and you have NO batteries in the house, and it's on Christmas morning, and ALL of the stores are closed, and THEN you wind up getting snowed in with a snowstorm so you have to wait it out for a week STILL without batteries????? That's how I feel - except I have BUSINESS work that my husband really needs me to complete by TONIGHT.

In the meantime, I'm dragged to Jeepers Creepers 2. Perhaps it'll make me feel better about MY plight!

I'll check back in a more sedated mood once I return.

Thanks for putting up with me again, and again, and again!

You have to be kidding me - you can't find where to download Java???

Did you try www.java.com ???

Exclamation I know it's incredible - but Java Virtual Machine will NOT load!

Despite how my posts may make me sound, I'm not dumb, and I have nearly literally gone down the list you get when you do a Google search for "Java Virtual Machine!"

Yes, I've tried "java.com," and "java.sun.com," and "java-virtual-machine.net/download.html," and at "http://www.microsoft.com/java/" I was hesitant to try a beta version since I'm not a programmer and don't needs bugs, and then it sends me off to yet ANOTHER link for the Java Technologies Support Center!

The POINT IS... is that for some odd reason, even though when I began to have problems with NOT having the Java Virtual Machine, I was told to totally uninstall my HP printer software (that wasn't all there anyway), and then uninstall any Java software I had, and THEN RE-INSTALL both of them, first doing Java and then the HP. For some reason now, the JVM will NOT totally load, and I keep getting the error message:

"Unable to start the application--the Java Virtual Machine cannot be loaded. Class not registered."

So what then?

I think your best course of action is to contact either the manufacturer of the equipment, or the retailer who sold it to you.

Exclamation Whooo boy! Tomorrow will be interesting due to your suggestion!

You have sound advice to either contact the manufacturer (which I have already done by e-mail in the beginning - and am still awaiting a reply), and I've also contacted Java via e-mail (also no reply as yet), and TOMORROW I'll be giving the current manager of the day at my local Best Buy another call (I called TWICE the first day I had problems), to once again say I'm most likely just going to return this printer because I can't get it to work.

I've had a few GOOD and a few BAD experiences at this store, so I really can't say anything bad about them, except for the cautious policy they hold of not giving any free technical support (I'm assuming they mean over the phone) for any printer installations. Two different techs told me different things to do (see earlier posts so I don't repeat myself), but now I'm faced with bringing the printer AND pc tower into Best Buy tomorrow and use up yet ANOTHER precious day that I haven't finished my husband's very important invoices, estimates/contracts, etc.! Somehow, I managed to convey my urgency to the very nice store manager who DID allow one of his nice techs to TRY to help me that first day of troubleshooting, but it was to no avail, and I'm STILL trying for the FOURTH day to get this fixed!

I could also contact my excellent local computer manufacturer who could most likely work out this problem for me - but the VERY LONG weekend was what made this whole event MOST frustrating!

I WILL post the end result of this saga, just in case some other poor schmuck out there has the same problem, so if I haven't fixed it by 10am tomorrow when my local computer places both open, my post will come eventually, and I'll just fade away into the background until my NEXT crisis!

Thank you for your efforts at helping me. I'm going to do some more on-line searching, attempting to manually download each section of the HP software again, since I BELIEVE I've managed two out of three parts, and continue to search for a Java Virtual Machine that will actually LOAD, instead of giving me yet MORE error messages!

Good night to all, my evening is just beginning...... and may not end!

Talking My HP Printer is WORKING NOW!

To the moderators: If this is unneccesary to post my solution in more than ONE place within the same forum, then just use my statement as follows:

Please see my first post regarding this problem, and my final solution! It's mostly guesswork and checking out everything, but my printer is finally working - and I'm not sure why!

To read the complete history of how it wound up working tonight, please read the following text which I originally posted at my first post's location:

I used all of the suggestions from everyone in all of the forums, my hundreds of dollars worth of computer books, searching the web for more Java, HP officejet and XP compatibility issues, and more items too numerous to mention!

In the meantime, I received the following NEW error messages which I ALSO had to figure out:

"Unable to initialize. A problem occured initializing the device manager."

THEN, I got a red, frightening Norton window saying:

"Alert: Malicious script detected." The Object was "FileSystem Object" and the Activity was "GetSpecialFolder." I was told my computer was halted and needs to do something about this script. The FILE was called HelpCtr.exe!!! My option was to STOP the script, but I would have preferred to quarantine it, but I STILL don't know what to do about THAT!! So, that's another question for someone... I read up on my script blocking, and reaffirmed that I DO have it checked to block scripts, but I still wonder what it is all about.

Then I went into my Norton's System Information and checked everything out, and then "My Computer" and "View System Information." When I got to the "Hardware" tab, I clicked on the "Device Manager" button, and looked for the "Imaging Devices" icon which I then clicked on. FOR SOME REASON, my software installation CD then started back up and it attempted to finish installing the remaining software that it said it would do HOURS ago before I got the Java Virtual Machine error message!

Oh, somewhere in there, I also went into my Control Panel, to the Printer section, and decided to click on "Add a Printer." I think it was THEN that everything began to run and I finally got the window stating "Completing the Add Printer Wizard!" I had ONE MORE error message about something, but after checking several sites regarding XP compatibility and getting conflicting answers, except from one place in HP's site, I bravely tried to print a page, and although I had TWO icons for the HP officejet, and the FIRST one didn't work, I tried the second one, made it my default printer, and it WORKED! HALLELUIA!

I don't know exactly what I did, but it's now working, and I wanted to report to each of the forums to which I'd posted how I MAY have managed to get it to work - although there are still a number of unanswered questions. (At this point, I have so much stuff to complete before I can go to bed, I don't care if little ELVES managed to fix it for me!)

Whew! Thank you everyone - it's been an interesting four days of hell to go through, but I have the satisfaction of salvaging my printer and not having to go through the confrontation with where I purchased the unit. Thanks again!
