I'm looking for an XP mentor(s) - I have a LOT of questions!
I posted an entirely TOO lengthy question about fonts in the XP forum, but my MAIN problem is that I need someone or several people willing to let me ask questions (sometimes several a day) and hopefully I'll eventually solve most of these problems and I'll quietly fade away into the background.
Right now I have a very patient friend whose business is manufacturing his own computers for sale and excellent service. He has only one other excellent employee, and I'm afraid that I'm just about wearing their patience thin when I call with questions that MUST be answered, but I believed I'm a little too inquisitive for my own good when it comes into delving into the guts of my pc!
Are there any retired, or semi-retired computer engineers out there that check DevShed on a regular basis that would be willing to adopt me? I'll be grateful if ANYONE with experience with XP and tweaking or restoring what I may have inadvertently done would respond? I have a pretty extensive collection of well-worn computer manuals for my major programs, as well as a foot-long list of "Favorites" as reference. I try pretty much to be a "do-it-yourself" computer user, but I need advice sometimes more often than not.
If it is of any help, whenever I've been doing any changes, etc. to my pc, I've been taking photos of the screen with my digital camera as reference, in case I need to explain to someone what I did - or screwed up! If I get an error message, I also photograph that, as well as the technical details, and have also learned to use the "Event Viewer" and Microsoft's webpage explanation and possible solution of the codes. I still need a LOT of help though! Anyone out there willing to help an aging brain that is STILL required to maintain and operate my pc on a daily basis?
Please respond if you're feeling generous, have technical expertise or the willingness to dig for the answer, and have the patience of a saint! Thanks!
