I need opinions...
What could be done to my web page?
http://www.gooreo.com/anime.htm So far it's all done with HTML, but soon I'm probably going to start putting in some other coding languages (if I may call it that) that will work together with the HTML. Also, the topic of my web page is anime, which may not be one of your favorite things, but I like it a lot. So give me tips for the DESIGN of the web page, not for the TOPIC of the web page. Anything is well appreciated. |

Seiken,
I'm not a big anime fan, but I will point out a couple of problems. 1. I have a 19" monitor and your seem to be using a background and when it is viewed at 1280x1024, your background tiles and your green text runs into the blue on the right side of the screen. My suggestion: since you one have blue and black in your background, use tables and set the background color, preferably via CSS. 2. If you started using CSS you could make some of you links have mouseover effects without using javascript. It is a neat effect and doesn't cause any load time problems. 3. I didn't read all your content, but...I would try to keep it close to a page long---AT MOST! In my opinion start pages (usually index.html or the first page on a site) should only be a page long. Scrolling is a pain. You might accomplish this by using a smaller font size and/or by changing the font family. Hope this helps, oach |

If you mean the links on the left are on the blue, that is done on purpose.
I fixed the page, at least I think so. Tell me if you have anymore advice! Thanks for your tips! Last edited by Seiken : August 1st, 2001 at 06:08 PM. |

With 1280x1024, the background starts to repeat.

K I'll fix that.
It's fixed , and I made the little scroll bar on the right a different color. I never knew how to do that before....![]() Last edited by Seiken : August 2nd, 2001 at 02:31 AM. |

OK, perhaps I was a bit harsh. I had no idea you were only thirteen. You did ask for opinions, and I gave you mine.
Considering your age, your site is a good start. You do have a long way to go, please don't take it personaly that I did not like the design of your site. If someone gives you some negative feedback, don't view it as insulting, or "crushing", view it for what it is... constructive criticism. When I started building sites, people would tear them up, with no regard for my feelings. Instead of giving up, or curling up in a ball and sobbing like a baby, I took every negative thing they had to say and improved on it. Of course, one harsh critique was not all I received, every time I thought I had made some good progress, someone would come along and just ruthlessly assult everything I had worked so hard at. As time goes on, you will learn to appreciate the negative feedback more than the positive. Anyone can come to your site, and lie to you by telling you that you have done a good job. Many people that come to your site may think it sucks, but never take the time to tell you they think it sucks and why. If someone feels the need to take the time out of their day to tell you how much they think your site sucks, perhaps it is only because they believe it has potential. Negative feedback is actually the best kind of feedback you will receive. You must learn to accept it, for as you are young, you seem to not have had much experience with it. I run a somewhat popular site based around peoples opinions on certain issues, and the name of my site is "Negative Feedback." There are many reasons I chose the name, but one of them is the fact that the site has been built from negative feedback. I emplore you, make me eat my words. If you write me off as a jerk, and continue on as-is, you will accomplish nothing. Use all the bad things I had to say as a foundation. Start with those and improve on them. Once you have fixed them all and you are proud of your work, someone else will come along and give you a whole new list of things that suck. Once again, you have something to work on. You must always leave room for improvements. To assume you have reached perfection is the biggest mistake you can make. You asked for opinions... As far as sites built by thirteen year olds go, you have done a very nice job. As far as websites go (which is what is important, the average person won't care what your age is) the site needs a lot of work. P.S. Dude... what about Gundom Wing? I'm not a big anime fan, but the Cartoon Network used to run uncensored versions of that cartoon during the Toonami Midnight Run, I was always sure to catch those episodes whenever possible. They had some pretty intense storylines, and some amazing animation. |
