IE vs NS caching

Here is an annoying problem I've been dealing with for weeks. I am a webmaster/server admin. I am constantly making changes to existing web pages on our site. When I click "refresh" in IE 5.5, after editing an html doc, the new changes are not displayed. Even after I clear the history and clear the cache, the new page is still not displayed!!! The "settings" I have in Internet Options
-> Temporary Internet Files -> "Check for newer versions of stored pages" is EVERY VISIT TO THE PAGE. This tells me that everytime I hit refresh, IE SHOULD download the page from the server, but it doesn't appear to do this!!!

Here is the weird part. When I open Netscape 4.7 and hit Reload, the new version of the page comes up. THEN, when I go back to IE and hit Refresh, up pops the new version of the page as well! Sounds to me like there is some common file that is shared between NS and IE, and when NS updates that file, IE also knows of the update. How can I get IE to refresh from the get-go, like is should, without screwing around with NS.

Or is this an Apache configuration issue??

By the way, I'm running WinBlows 98.

Thanks

Jon

Is it possible that your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is caching the content they provide to you?

IE 5.5 has a bug in it where it will not reload the page from the server when you press refresh. This happens more often when the web server uses server side caching. You can try to force it by doing a CTRL+Refresh or a Shift+REFRESH but that doesn't always work. They supposedly fixed this problem in IE 5.5 SP2 and IE 6. I updated to IE 5.5 SP2 and the problem went away for me. So, update to IE 5.5 SP2 and see if that helps. If you already have IE 5.5 SP2 then you might try IE 6.
