Internet / Web Based Applications

Hello All

I am writing a dissertation regarding the project management of internet / web applications (any input welcomed...) and I am seeking a definitive statement on WHAT an Internet Application is.

I have reviewed several messages from around the fora and have seen several references to such applicatios, however, to the best of my knowledge, no real definition exists.

I've considered hybrid definitions using software / internet OR website / software, but before doing so wonder if there are any thoughts on this or, indeed, there does exist a definition and I am not looking hard enough.

Hi

applications = the act of administering or superposing important task(s)

Internet = organizational computer network with unrelated content

To give a clear and true, definition to your question is rather impossible.......

Why..........

application = task(s) not singular (task)

So, that being the case, "no 1 task is the same as the next task"

Meaning, application would have a wide array of definitions! No single definition would define it meaning......

Internet => content => unrelated content!!!!

If you used true reasoning, you would understand how vague your question is........

Example if you want to write a paper on (Adobe Photoshop)....

You would clearly have a topic that you can derive a definition for. You can go outside the topic (Adobe Photoshop), but only if you use the topic as the key, such as in, if you wanted to compare (Adobe Photoshop to Corel Draw 10).....

Now having explained my thoughts, I think you could find one aspect of Internet, in regards to web based applications and write about that!

F!

Fataqui raised a couple of points (thanks, F).

Two quickies in response:

1/ Fataqui, you probably have a point about vagueness (or misinterpretation, I'm not sure) so I'll add a further element to the question:

Is there a clear definition of WHAT an Internet BASED Application or Web BASED System is? That is, an application or system designed and built specifically for use via the internet / wwweb.

Fataqui (again!!), I'm not sure that you have clearly explained your thoughts. Are you saying that a defintion for Internet Based Applications can't exist? What about (and I paraphrase, albeit WIP):

An application / system upon which [the act of administering or superposing important(?) task(s)] via an interconnected [computer network with unrelated content] is made possible utilising design specific software.

It needs work, granted...

2/ Fataqui, (sorry mate) you suggest that the likes of Adobe PhotoShop or Corel Draw are internet applications. I see these more as software tools for assisting in the devlopment of internet based applications etc. Any further thoughts around?

The aspect that I am most interested in is the engineering or management of application development projects FOR the internet, not necessarily TOOLS for the development.
