Is there a way to route traffic based on clients' geographic location?

You know, when you go to a site, and it has "pick the closest mirror site." So if you are in San Francisco, you pick the California server, if you are in New York City, you pick the New York server.

Is there any sort of way to refer clients to the closest site? Or is that pretty hard core?
