Java project?

I'm some what new to java and understand the basics but as far as doing the actual programming, I'm all thumbs. I have a project I have to work on that is a club registration league. We have to allow for different inputs from the user and have it all go together. The professor teaches mainly off of power point slides and they are very technical and hard to follow. I was wondering if anyone could help me w/ this project? The only example from the book we have to use as a reference is about a bank account system, even though they are similar, the book doesn't go into much code as what to do.
