Link fails-HTTP 404

This is my first web with approximately 12 htm pages and three php pages and a small mysql db. Using FP2000 and testing on my own PC. Couldn't find any similar posts and I'm stuck.
I'm attempting to link from a page....search.php back to my home page....index.htm with <a href="index.htm" > Home </a> and I get the 404 error. Other links between the .htm pages work and links between the .php pages work okay.

Gave it a try this morning and to my chagrin....HTTP 500 error. If this is a IIS problem I'm really in trouble.

Talking

Resigned myself to believe the problem must be in IIS so just happen to look in the Internet Services Manager and the index.htm page is not there but....default.htm is...so I changed the link to default.htm and walla........success.
