Newbie doobie do

The description of this forum declares I can ask for any help I need here... so because of unseasonalbly warm weather, all the snow has melted off my deck and has made a sloppy mess of water and ice in front of my garage doors. So I can't get out... oh.. wrong forum...

I followed PHP tutorial links from PHP.net until I ended up at the
Creating a Mailing List Manager with PHP
http://www.devshed.com/Server_Side/...ling/page1.html

I figured I was in over my head... but I can dream. I copy and pasted all the files exactly as written into Notepad. Then I uploaded them to my site via FTP.

You can see all the files here:

http://pamelajoy.com/php/list/

Beginning file:
http://pamelajoy.com/php/list/index.php3

When the files wouldn't post, I copied the whole shebang into the main public_html folder, too. That didn't work either, but you are welcome to try:
http://pamelajoy.com/index.php3

When I try to create a list online, I get an error 405 Method Not Allowed.

1) Can anyone tell what the problem is? I remember using the post command in other tutorials, and I don't remember having an error.

2) Should I use absolute URLs?

3) Am I missing a file?

4) Will log.txt files generate on their own or do I have to make an empty one?

I've asked my web host these questions too... but in case the answer is obvious, I am posting here, too.

At this point, this is an excercise.

This may be because your directory doesn't allow the file to be 'writeable' - you'll need to change it using 'chmod' so the file can be written there.

What ftp software are you using?

Thanks for replying.... I don't know how to chmod at this point. I've decided that I'm getting ahead of myself with this project. So I'm back to the books and some easier tutorials first.

I am using WS-ftp.

OK

Using ws-ftp if you right-click on the directory the (I think) bottom choice is CHMOD, choose it and you'll see a little box with permissions on it..... you need the 'write' option.

Good luck

I'll shovel you out for $20.00 - I could really use the job. My skills include: Visual Basic 3.0, Microsoft Access, and I have 13 MCSEs in various Microsoft Office products as well as experience with some legacy systems: mostly Windows 2000 and .NET.

sorry... just ignore me... somewhat of an inside joke

You really felt the need to post this crappy comment? Couldn't restrain yourself? Your WWF-lovin' reptilian brain took over? How about you do us a favor- think a tiny bit before you type and waste our time again.

Why, thank you Hero!

What I don't understand is why he had to pull up a thread that was resolved almost 3 weeks ago for this.

Cripes, you could've just PM'ed the insult so nobody else had to waste time clicking to your pointless post. I can't say as I'm too broken up about your dislike of my silly looking avatar, but I'm pretty peeved that you're wasting peoples' time who click to the post thinking it might actually be worth reading.
