Newbie needs some 'hand holding'

[small] sorry for the double post..i only just scrolled down and saw this forum [/small]

Hi All,

Appreciate your time

I have downloaded MySQL and installed it. I have IIS set up on my Win2000 machine. I am also running WinMySQLAdmin v1.4. I have also installed the ODBC driver...

What now

I am very confused as to where to start...

at this infantile stage, i need to have the ability to write (& open/run) simple SQL statements to test the syntax, but i don't know where to start....

i know this is extremley vague, but i cant see an 'authoring' environment ie: there's no program to run from the start menu that fires up a GUI (it just seems like i installed MySQL, and its just sitting on my HDD doing...well...nothing) that i can use to start writing SQL statements etc... as you can see...i am very LOST...i am very keen to start learning MySQL and PHP to fuse with my web development love...but i really need some help to kick it all off...

Look forward to answers/help and a good learning potential on these forum's

Cheers

Ok, well, you've used Access before? Try this out, it might help: http://anse.de/mysqlfront/
Also, MySQL uses a command line client by default. Browse devshed.com's articles on how to set it up, make tables, etc, if you want to use the command line.

I know what you mean. I was thrown off at first by the lack of "in-your-face" iconation, GUI-ation, etc-(ation?) too that is so characteristic of windoze apps. Here's what I did:
1. Open up the MySql directory.
2. Start double-clicking on application icons until you get a mysql command prompt wanting something from you.
3. Create a shortcut to it for your start menu or desktop so you don't lose it.
4. Go out to the www.mysql.com and get the HTML documentation, download it, and just walk through it step by step trying everything they do in the tutorial. Trust me, the mysql tutorial is about as much hand-holding as you can get!
