I would recommend you uninstall PWS and download Apache. You'll get better performance as well. I believe you can run PHP on IIS, but I would recommend avoiding Microsoft software as much as possible.

Wow, this forum doesn't lean toward PHP does it...? I recommend finding more objective advice. Its not that hard to install PHP to run on IIS. Do a search here or on were-here (http://www.were-here.com) and you'll find plenty of good advise on the subject. Or, since you have ASP, learn that and be happy!

Believe it or not, my opinion is objective. I make a living coding in ASP, Visual Basic, and XML/XSL for a product that will run on IIS and Windows NT/2000. I have encountered numerous bugs in various combinations of Microsoft technologies that I haven't even come close to encountering with PHP on Apache. Whether you like it or not, it's pretty common knowledge that Microsoft software is pretty darned buggy and patches aren't that forthcoming from the software giant. You'll find support much more readily with Open Source solutions, IMHO. |

Gracias, Seņor.
I found ASP extremely easy to learn , deploy and use. When I looked into PHP, I found it to be the opposite. I wouldn't wish it on a beginner. IMHO ![]() |

So, we agree to disagree.
I'm sure I could find as many people that think PHP to be the easier of the two as you could to say the opposite. One other point, PWS limits connections to 10 (40 if you count the "fix" for the "connections not timing out properly" bug in PWS). Apache does not. |

Oh, yeah, you definitely can't use pws for anything other than your own development. If you have NT or 2000 you can run IIS, which is pretty painless. I think most of us prefer that which we had to learn first.
But, the guy who asked the original question will really get a flavor for how much debate there is on the subject, and that it really depends on who you ask. I say, follow the path of least resistance. Last edited by evildj : September 2nd, 2001 at 12:18 AM. |
