    Hi Bob,

Here is a cut and paste from http://www.php.net home page:
PHP is a server-side, cross-platform, HTML embedded scripting language. If you are completely new to PHP and want to get some idea of how it works, have a look at the Introductory Tutorial (http://www.php.net/tut.php).
PHP is most similar to ASP in your list of technologies above. It requires a server-side engine to pre-process the commands embedded in the HTML before sending the result to the browser.

PHP is embedded in HTML, but is not HTML. After the browser requests a PHP page, the server returns the result as html.

JavaScript is strictly a Client-Side Browser scripting language, and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) is a mechanism for adding style to Web documents. (see http://www.w3.org/Style/CSS/ ).

    Hope that helps!
