Rogue Homepage
I use IE6 on my fairly new Windows XP computer - recently, when I launch my browser it goes straight to a search engine page (URL) and I don't know how to get rid of it.
I'm used to some pages trying (and sometimes succeeding) to set themselves as my homepage but I have always been able to change this via the tools/internet options box. When I try to do this now, I find that my homepage hasn't been changed - it is still set as a blank page. When my browser opens up there are a lot of numbers and % signs in the title bar if that means anything. I use AVG anti-virus and Ad-Aware 6.0 and I have done a registry search for anything that looks suspicious. Any ideas anyone? Thanks |

This story is repeated about a million times a day.
You've already used ad-aware and anti-virus. Double check that both are up to date. You can also try a program called SpyBot in conjuntion with Ad-Aware. Also, I have a program called Reg Cleaner that assists you in finding entries to delete. You can get it off Cnet. Beyond that, clear all cookies, windows temp files, ect. Maybe someone else will have an idea too. Also, try searching google with that home page name and a keyword, like 'bug' or something. |
