Dear MaryAnn,
The graphics are first class, but as a web page which you want people to see, it really has little chance.
The graphics files, when all added together come to over 300Kilobytes. 30 - 50 is a fair target for an opening page. The first page took more than three and a half minutes to complete. Some Internet gurus say twenty seconds, some say thirty for an opening page, but certainly no more. Casual visitors will just give up and go away, so you will only get real horse enthusiasts who are willing to wait.
I found the black writing on a dark background difficult to read, and I've only just worked out what the small circle at the top of the buttons says. E Mail Me
YOU know what they are all supposed to say, so it's easy for you, but to a stranger, having waited three or more minutes to get the page, being presented with stuff he/she can't easily read, is just another little niggle.
You've got some superb stuff on your site (I particularly liked Magic), but please take a little bit of advice from an old hand (I've been on the web since 95) - get 'em into the site a bit quicker.
Create a new opening page, keep it under 50K, which doesn't involve all the menu stuff straight away. The welcome animated gif, whilst very pretty, is bigger than the opening page total should be. There is a school of thought which says - if it's text, use text, don't make a graphic out of it. I don't entirely agree with that, but the site would be no worse off with a nice looking un-animated Welcome graphic, and you'd probably save 45K in the process.
Give 'em something on the opening page which makes them say "Hey, this looks good, let's have a look". At the moment it's "Oh boy, this is slow. Is it going to be worth the wait?" Of course, the answer is yes, but after a couple of minutes, they might not think so, and go somewhere else. Their loss, but yours too, to a certain extent. You obviously want people to see the site, otherwise you wouldn't have gone to all the trouble of creating it.
OK, I've said my piece. I'll just say one more thing. The site is excellent and I thoroughly enjoyed my visit, thank you, but I do wish it was a bit quicker.
Don't be disheartened by any of my comments, they are after all, only words of wisdom(??) from an old hand.
Best regards
Chalky
