So I've created an entire site using CGI as the language. I am trying to build up a large number of users though, and wondering if I should transfer to another language now before it's too late.
Is PHP better, or what about MySQL? What are the recommendations for the best server side language for a site that involves uploads, BBS, voting, reviews, and a swapping cash system? |

CGI is not a language. In most case, Perl is being used as CGI. >> wondering if I should transfer to another language now before it's too late Do so when you know other language well enough. Asking such question tells me you know nothing but Perl. So just stick with what you are most comportable with and migrate slowly. >> Is PHP better, or what about MySQL? There is no strict answer. If you don't know any PHP/MySQL, it doesn't do any better for you but make it worse eventually. Once again, obviously if you know them, you wouldn't be asking such a question here in the first place. |

You would need to have a pretty busy site to have to change language because of performance.
You could give PHP a go, I find it easy to use and it has a short development time PHP and Perl have a similar syntax. I am assuming that by CGI language you mean perl. (CGI isn't a language, it stands for Computer Gateway Interface or something like that) Conclusion The "best language" is the one that's easiest for you. |
