I recently switched hosts and I'm pulling my hair out. I tried to publish my site and got errors for days. Got the run around from the host. First they said my user name was corrupt and they don't know what happened. Then their servers were down 3 times in 3 days. Now they are down again and this has got to be the most awful experience with a host. I loose the server connection in the middle of publishing nearly every time. I had installed stuff that they showed as never having been installed and they reinstalled it. I couldn't sign in to my account for days. It is SO frustrating. I must have called them 15 times in the past 2 days. I get busy signals, messages that their servers are down or someone who ALWAYS says they'll have their supervisor get right back to me or it's in the supervisor's hands now. Yesterday I waited over 14 hours for someone to get back to me. I needed my site up yesterday and stayed home all day to do it. I was told a supervisor would have the answer within 2 hours. I was still trying to publish at 1:00 am and still haven't gotten it published. The company is OLM (Webaxxs). Does anyone know anything about them? I wish I'd never moved to them. I did it for the CGI, PHP, MySQL that my host was lacking. I wonder if I can get a refund and leave them now. Also who do you guys recommend for hosting? Someone in here recommended hosting to me once that looked good, but it was overseas. I'm in the US and wasn't sure I could do that. I went to the site and think they wanted payment in Euro. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. Antopia |

I would recommend getting your money back, and switching hosts.
Check itsAll Net, another Devshed Network site, for a list of web hosts. Also, post a question in the Web Hosting forums on this site, you're bound to get some referrals worth looking into.

Thank you for the advice. I will check into itsallnet now and try to get my money back from this host. Even if I don't get a refund I will be leaving them asap.
Take care. Antopia |

Be sure to warn other developers about the experience you've had, on this forum and on others... Also, you should report this web host to the Better Business Bureau, the FCC, the Commerce Dept in the state they do business in... you'd be amazed at what external pressure can do to whip a company back into shape. If they don't refund your money, you should consider contacting a lawyer who handles small claims ( < $1K), as getting your money back in small claims court is still a possibility for you. Best of luck... |

I contacted the host tonight and asked to speak to a supervisor. I told him the problems I was having and that I want a refund and I want out of their hosting. So he tells me that they don't normally have these problems. That their ISP's phone lines went down and that they may have servers down a lot cause they are always working on them, but they have 5000 of them. He was actually helpful and I was able to publish my site tonight. Of course. :-/ Still want to find another host though. I don't know that I even care to dispute this now. I'd rather have the site up when I need it up then worry about redoing all of this. I'm trying to open a shop on it and worry that if I switch again so soon it'll be down again for a week or so when I need it up and running. I want a great host with loads of goodies so I'll be looking for one with Perl, CGI, MySQL, large bandwidth and file sizes, and at least 3 email accounts. It would be nice to find one at a decent price too.
It's late so I'll ask in the web hosting forums tomorrow or later today since it's now the wee hours of the morn again. Thanks again, Antopia |
