Webserver help
I'm looking into setting up my own webserver. Can anyone give me some tips as to where to start? What other sites can I go to for more information on this?

Are you sure? How much knowledge do you have? Or how hungry for knowledge about this are you? How much time and money do you have?
The above questions applies if you intend to setup a public web server. Things like what OS do you want to use, what services will you need to run, how fast connections do you have/need, how much time can you spend on fixing things and/or learning how to fix things etc will need an answer. By running a webserver you open up a hole for someone to break into. And sooner or later someone will at least try. Which means that you will need to know what you're doing... To wrap it up: It's a helluvalot easier to buy this from some ISP that has the resources to maintain it. If you just want to run some private webserver (only reachable for yourself within your own network or on your own box), then just download Apache and follow the instructions. If you want to do it for the learning purposes or for the fun of it, grab a copy of some Linux distro or FreeBSD and read the manuals. //NoXcuz

yes
I'm doing this for knowledge sake. Currently, I have some good disposable computers and I planning to set up a server for my friends to access. I want to learn how to manage a public server either using WindowsXP, 98, or linux. I have all the time and money. I'm willing to learn how to defend against any openings.
