some ready-made examples

Forums are pretty involved pieces of code... if you aren't already proficient in perl, php etc, why not get a free, ready made one and learn by using the codes as an example? It's much less frustrating and gives a good basis for your own improvements.

Here are some links to get you started:

and there are heaps more out there.

Happy coding!

Jen

Thumbs up Right Here

Perl and PHP are probably the most widely used tools for interactive web pages. There are a lot of helpful tutorials for these languages here on Developer Shed:

O'Reilly also has some excellent books.

Even if you plan to use a ready made script, it's a good idea to have some grasp of the language so you can debug it when things go wrong. The real fun is writing your own scripts from scratch.

worth noting

if you're just interested in setting up a discussion board... and not in implementing one (which definitely requires some experience no matter what the technology), check out:

for a good php discussion board
