Autostart Zope on boot (FreeBSD)
Hi,
I'm sure this should be a no-brainer, but I just can't seem to get my head round the problem. I'm a new(ish) Linux (Debian) user myself, so I'm fairly au fait with the idea of startup scripts and permissions and so on but I just can't seem to get Zope to start on booting one of my FreeBSD servers (BSD I'm less familier with). There's a zope startup script in the right place, and it gets run, but the script doesn't have the right permissions to actually start zope. If I do sudo /usr/local/etc/rc.d/zope.sh start|stop it works just fine, it's just when the script is run at a non-root level that it falls over. I've tried changing the permissions (to 777, in the end) of the script itself, of the directory it runs in and the scripts it calls in the Zope directory, but all to no avail. I *think* the problem comes down to the creation of a file 'zope-output' which needs re-creating on each startup, but needs root priviliges to be created? Am I just being dense, and overlooking something obvious, or is this really as awkward as it seems to be? Has anyone else had this problem, becuase I've got it happening on at least two machines (almost identical configs otherwise), or is it just me? thanks in advance, -mat brown new media developer, URL |

How did you install Zope? Did mine from the ports, and the make install went all the way to modifying my start-up script.

it's OK, my bad
I did install Zope from the ports list, and it did modify/create the correct files in /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ - a standard installation. The weird thing is that it started working this morning, with (as far as I can remember) no intervention from myself. My other machine that had/has the problem I don't know about, as it's in a live situation and I can't reboot it just to test. (I just have to make sure I check it after it's next reboot!)
Looks like today is going to be a Good Pixie Day. thanks for the help anyway, much appreciated. -mat. |
