cant connect to samba

Hey there

ok, for N'th I reinstalled freebsd and updated it to latest stable and now I'm trying to isntall samba back. Last time I built it from ports but this time I decided to do it with packages, so I downloaded latest package from ftp.freebsd.org and then just did pkg_add.

When I first time tried to start smbd and nmbd I got error saying needed valid.data upcase.dat lowcase.dat files. I found those files, downloaded and now it doesn't ask for them. But the thing is that I cannot connect to my box from my winxp box.

My simple smb.conf (if it makes any difference):
Quote:
[global]
workgroup=WHITESTAR
netbios name=bsdbox
server string="home bsd box"
encrypt passwords=yes
guest ok=yes

[homes]

[data]
path=/
comment="whole root shared"
read only=no

I ran smbd && nmbd manually as root, but when I try to connect from xp it just keeps on prompting me for password. When I do smbclinet -N -L localhost I get
Quote:
added interface ip=192.168.0.15 bcast=192.168.0.255 nmask=255.255.255.0
error connecting to 127.0.0.1:445 (Connection refused)
Doing spnego session setup (blob length=72)
Anonymous login successful
Domain=[WHITESTAR] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba]

Sharename Type Comment
--------- ---- -------
homes Disk
data Disk whole root shared
IPC$ IPC IPC Service ("home bsd box")
ADMIN$ IPC IPC Service ("home bsd box")

Server Comment
--------- -------
BRENDA
BSDBOX kewl bsd box

Workgroup Master
--------- -------
WHITESTAR BRENDA

Where 'brenda' is another home win2k box with shared hdd. Thing is that I cannot access my bsd box - I see it in my workgroup computers though, but it keeps on prompting for username/pass even though I set guest ok=yes Another thing that confuses me, how come I get both error connecting to 127.0.0.1:445 (Connection refused) and Anonymous login successful at the same time?
SWAT doesn't work either, but I guess thats another thread.

edit
forgot log.smbd

log.nmbd has no errors in it, it just got "Netbios nameserver version 3.0-alpha15 started."

Have you run "smbpasswd" to create a password file? I believe you need this for encrypt passwords=yes
