Configuring FreeBSD to use my NIC

A computer I wish to install FreeBSD on has a NIC called "HP 10/100 BaseT LAN Adapter (Ethernet)" I already checked the supported ethernet cards page, and as of 4.8 RELEASE (which I have installed) it is not listed. I realize that this means that there is no current driver for the NIC, and I know it will not be easy, but I am wondering what steps I would take to configure FreeBSD to work with my NIC. if you have any experience in this area, please share it with me. Also, if there is any documentation or guide as to how to do this, please post a link to it. I have looked in the manual but did not seem to find any info on this, probably because it is not something that most users need to do. Thanks for your time and help.

If your HP card is PCI and if isn't being detected at boot, just forget it and replace it with another 10/100 PCI one (except realtek-based card). Don't waste your time on trying to get it to work, spend your time elsewhere.
